SUMMARY:Canceled - Sewing Camp
DESCRIPTION:Each day at Sewing Camp\, campers have opportunities do fun\, hands-on learning at the Discovery Stations; have lunch and recess; and play pioneer games. There is about 1 ¾ hour each day with artist-in-residence Natalie Norman. \nOther sessions and projects during Sewing Camp include: \n\nPaint and decorate a 3D Dala horse.\nExplore the restored prairie and discover what flowers\, insects\, and wildlife make Gammelgården their home.\nLearn how families in the mid- to late-1800s made ice cream. Help churn (and taste!) homemade ice cream.\nExplore the 3 houses at Gammelgarden – Immigrant House\, Pastor’s House\, and Peasant Cottage – and explore their similarities and differences.\nLearn about some of the trees at Gammelgården and then use quilling and painting to create a unique summer tree.\nLearn how the Ojibwe tribe was one of the tribes living in the St. Croix River Valley. Use fabric markers to color a shoulder bag using natural materials and images of bandolier bags in the Minnesota Historical Society collection as inspiration.\nLearn about chickens and make a paper-painted collage chicken or rooster\nExplore the Church/One-Room School and Barn at Gammelgarden\, and learn what children did in each building.\n\n  \n\nOffered: Monday and Tuesday\, July 22-23\, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nAges: Children entering first grade through sixth grade.\nFee: $130 members/$145 non-members (all supplies included).\nRegistration Deadline: July 1. Limited to 20 children.\nRegistration is on a first-come\, first-served basis. Make your reservation early to guarantee a spot. A waiting list will be kept for the camp.\nRegistration closes 3 weeks before the camp begins.\n\n  \nPlease note: \n\nPlease ensure that campers come prepared with a lunch\, a water bottle\, sun protection\, and a change of clothes and shoes. If rain is forecasted\, include a rain jacket. It’s important that children have appropriate clothing for outdoor activities and art projects\, and can change into dry clothes if needed.\nCamp starts at 9 a.m.\, so children should be dropped off 10-15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Prior to 8:45 a.m.\, parents may watch their children play on the playground next to Gammelgården.\nPick-up is promptly at 3 p.m.\nCancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund.
