DESCRIPTION:Opening Weekend celebrates Gammelgården Museum of Scandia’s focus in its 51st year: Swedish Folk Painting Tradition and Innovation. \nTours will be held on Friday and Saturday at 10:30 AM\, 1:00 PM\, and 2:30 PM; and on Sunday at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. \nOn Friday and Saturday during Opening Weekend\, tours are free. Starting on Sunday\, tickets are $10 per person ($9 Admission/Tour for Military). Gammelgården Members\, ASI Current Members\, and Children under 12 are free. Reservations are not required. \nOn Saturday\, May 6th\, watch the craft and artisan demonstrators\, visit the Artists & Crafters Fair\, do hands-on activities for people of all ages\, and tour the historic buildings.  \nCostumed members of the Living History Society of Minnesota demonstrate popular nineteenth-century games appropriate for adults and/or children. Participants have the opportunity to engage in a nineteenth-century game with members of the Society. Popular games of the period include: Graces\, Tail of the Dog\, Hopscotch\, Marbles\, Jump Rope\, Croquet\, and Barnyard Animals. \nOn Saturday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.\, there is a birthday party for Gammelgården – with a catered picnic dinner and birthday cake as well as music and fun activities. Bring your blanket and enjoy your dinner on the Gammelgården grounds\, listen to music\, and play old-fashioned games. This is a ticketed event.

DESCRIPTION:Opening Weekend celebrates Gammelgården Museum of Scandia’s focus in its 51st year: Swedish Folk Painting Tradition and Innovation. \nTours will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM\, 1:00 PM\, and 2:30 PM; and on Sunday at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. On Saturday\, there are self-guided tours with a docent at each historical building. \nOn Friday during Opening Weekend\, tours are free. Starting on Sunday\, tickets are $10 per person ($9 Admission/Tour for Military). Gammelgården Members\, ASI Current Members\, and Children under 12 are free. Reservations are not required. \nOn Saturday\, May 6th from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, there are free tours of Gammelgården’s historic buildings. In addition\, visitors of all ages can experience what life was like for immigrants and early settlers by packing a steamer trunk for America just like Swedish immigrants would have done in the 1800s\, make homemade butter\, weave on large looms\, “milk” a cow\, haul water with a yoke\, shuck corn\, lift real straw- and hay bales\, and write on slates as children did in one-room schoolhouses. \nPeople of all ages can do make-and-take activities: create a paper quilt\, make wildflower seed balls\, color Swedish-inspired coloring sheets\, and go on a Spring scavenger hunt. \nMany artists and crafters will have their work available for sale including Benelson Design (sterling silver jewelry)\, Josie Cooke (birch bark stars and knitted items)\, Minnesota Metalsmiths (metal work)\, Nordic Scents (all-natural soy candles)\, and Ronna Thorson (rosemaling and dalmålning on horse sculptures\, plates\, ornaments\, and plaques). \nDemonstrators on Saturday\, May 6th include: \n\nBrad Nelson from Benelson Design who will be doing chain making\, Viking knitting\, chip carving\, and “Tramp Art”\nJosie Cooke will be spinning on the spinning wheel and spindle\, knitting\, and doing basket making\nMinnesota Metalsmiths will be doing metal work\nRonna Thorson will be doing rosemaling\n\nThe Bluebird Recovery Program of Minnesota will be at Gammelgården on May 6th to answer questions about bluebird nest boxes\, trail placement\, and monitoring techniques. Also\, visitors can see Gammelgården’s new Bluebird Trail with ten Gilwood Slot bluebird nest boxes. \nAlso on Saturday\, May 6th\, costumed members of the Living History Society of Minnesota will demonstrate popular nineteenth century games for adults and children. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in a nineteenth century game with members of the Society. \nOn Saturday from 5:00-7:00 p.m.\, Gammelgården Museum of Scandia will be hosting a 51st Birthday Supper Picnic Party\, served at the museum for people of all ages in the community…just make a reservation. \nThe menu includes: Pulled pork on buns with assorted Swedish toppings (Lingonberry sauce\, Swedish mustard\, mayo with dill and horseradish)\, potato salad\, coleslaw\, mixed fresh fruit salad\, and beverage. \nThe program includes: \n5:00 p.m. – Dinner (sponsored by TST Catering and The Nordlys Foundation)r \n5:45 p.m. – Sing-a-long music with the Good Neighbors Uke Circle\, Osceola\, Wisconsin \n6:30 p.m. – Dairy Queen Birthday Cake \nReservations are $10/person and are required by Sunday\, April 30th. DESCRIPTION:On display from May 3rd to June 30th! \nWe invite families to take a walk at Gammelgården and enjoy the Story Stroll! The Story Stroll is a free family-friendly activity that the whole family can enjoy together and bond through literacy while spending time outdoors exploring Gammelgården’s beautiful grounds. \nThanks to the Washington County Library\, the Story Stroll will feature Elsa Beskow’s Pelle’s New Suit. In the book\, Pelle has a lamb whose coat grows longer and longer\, while Pelle’s suit grows shorter! Pelle shears his lamb\, but he doesn’t know what to do next. Pelle offers to do chores and run errands for his family and neighbors in exchange for their help to card\, spin\, dye\, and weave the wool. When the fleece has finally been made a fine blue cloth\, Pelle asks one last favor – for the tailor to make it into a smart new suit. \nThis is a delightful story from the world-renowned Swedish author-illustrator Elsa Beskow which will help young children understand bartering\, traditional wool crafts\, and from where our clothes come.

DESCRIPTION:Spend part of your morning (from 10 a.m.-12 noon) helping to assemble 200 nature and craft kits for Gammelgarden Museum. The craft and activity kits are focused on nature\, heritage gardening\, reuse\, and resourcefulness which will be offered to youth at no cost during the summer. \nThe Lions also will be collecting items for Gammelgarden Museum of Scandia including: \n\ngift cards to purchase items for youth programs (Walmart\, amazon.com\, Menards\, Joanns\, and Prairie Restorations)\,\n20 baskets with handles (to hold 3 strawberry plants)\,\noversized lawn games\,\nantique/old children’s games (jacks\, marbles)\, and\nitems for Girls & Dolls tea parties (china sets\, china teapots\, sets of 4-6 new cloth napkins\, highchairs for dolls\, white gloves in children’s sizes\, and new rectangular tablecloths).\n\nIn addition to the kits and collection drive for Gammelgarden\, there will be 14 other hands-on service projects and 20 collection drives to benefit a variety of organizations. \nA free lunch will be served to volunteers from 12-1 p.m. \nSign up here to volunteer: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4fadac29a7f85-2023#/.
