DESCRIPTION:A costumed narrator provides an overview of the history of tea in Western society. Tea is prepared as a demonstration and served at a tea table by other costumed interpreters in proper upper-class mid-nineteenth-century form. Commentary is provided concerning manners\, language\, the social hierarchy\, and the kinds of accompaniments that would have been offered. \nParticipants leave the event with a working knowledge regarding the preparation of a mid-nineteenth-century tea\, and the rules involved. Attendees: \n\nLearn about the history of tea as a social custom.\nView equipment considered necessary for tea service in the mid-nineteenth century\, and learn to identify what the function of each item is and how it is properly used.\nObserve the preparation and serving of tea by costumed interpreters.\n\nFollowing the presentation\, enjoy a tea party with light food\, desserts\, tea\, and coffee. \nThis event is appropriate for ages 12+ years old. DESCRIPTION:National Day is a day when Swedes celebrate the memory of the election of the nation’s founding father\, Gustav Vasa\, on June 6\, 1523. \nIt was also on this day that a new constitution was adopted in 1809. The name was changed to Swedish Flag Day in 1983\, but it wasn’t until 2005 that it became an official public holiday. \nOn National Day in Sweden\, people enjoy Fika with friends\, sing\, dance\, and attend village events in the town square.

You can attend one session or all three. In addition to meaningful conversations with others who are 50+ years old\, there will be food and fun! Call 612-746-0725 to reserve your spot at one\, two\, or all three sessions! \nThursday\, May 9th – 10:30-12:30 – Values and Concerns\nThursday\, May 16th – 10:30-12:30 – Social Connections\nThursday\, May 23rd – 10:30-12:30 – Loneliness and Isolation \nEach two-hour session includes food\, fun\, and – most importantly – meaningful conversation. These sessions give older adults an opportunity to explore social connections or the lack thereof in their lives. Through guided conversations\, participants provide feedback about the challenges and rewards of growing older. Kayla will guide students through the beginner skills of paper quilling\, while discussing tools and various techniques for creating multiple coil shapes and sizes. Funds from the online auction will help secure museum-quality storage for the artifacts\, and be used to restore or repair those artifacts needing immediate attention. \nThe link to the auction will be posted in early-April. You can help support it not only by donating items\, but by making a cash donation\, sharing the event with family and friends\, and bidding when the auction goes live.
