DESCRIPTION:New to Gammelgården this year is children’s storytime! This program will be hosted weekly on Thursday’s at 10:30 am in the classroom upstairs.\n\nThis is a great opportunity for you and your family to partake in early literacy in your community. Early literacy programs are not designed to teach young children how to read\, rather they focus on developing skills through stories. \n\nStorytime is designed to introduce your little one to stories\, songs\, rhyming\, and other kids. Storytime often includes one to two read-alouds with one to two interactive songs\, rhymes\, or activities.\n\nStorytime will be hosted by Grace Taylor. Grace will graduate with a Master’s in Library and Information Sciences from St. Kate’s in August 2025 and has taken multiple courses in Children’s Materials and Services.

SUMMARY:Cinnamon Bun Day at Gammelgården
DESCRIPTION:Gammelgården Museum of Scandia will be passing out 200 free cinnamon buns at the museum in celebration of the 45th anniversary of Cinnamon Bun Day. The cinnamon buns will be distributed at the museum on a first-come\, first-served basis. \nWhen you pick up your cinnamon bun\, plan to spend some time looking at the Welcome House (the big red building) and seeing the exhibits and displays. \nThe grounds are open for people to walk around and see the exterior of the historic buildings. For those wanting to see the inside of the historic buildings\, guided tours will be offered at 10:30\, 12:00\, and 1:30 on Friday. (Regular fees for tours apply.) \n(This event is in addition to passing out 700 cinnamon buns with the Scandia-Marine Lions\, Scandia Sister City Council\, and City of Scandia at the corner of Elim Lutheran Church\, the cemetery\,  Maklin Bikes\, and Apothecary’s Daughter earlier in the day from 7:00 -8:30 a.m.)

SUMMARY:Dye Like a Viking
DESCRIPTION:Delve into the world of Viking-era dye work.  In this class\, you will recreate dyes that the Norse would have used – rusty red\, brilliant blue\, soft purples\, sunny yellows\, and mossy greens – based on archeological evidence. You will learn to prepare dye baths\, mordant fibers\, modify colors\, and identify dye plants.  \nStudents will receive eight 25-yard skeins of yarn to dye\, enough to create a project. This introductory class will also discuss ethical harvesting\, ways to modify colors\, and sources for further exploration. \nRegistration includes: Instruction\, yarn\, and dyes (value $20). By the end of class\, you will go home with about 200 yards of wool in a variety of colors\, and the knowledge to dye additional fiber! \nThis class is for adults and youth ages 12+. Youth must be accompanied by a paying adult. \nRegister on EventBrite. Space is very limited and filled on a first-come\, first-served basis.

DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Arts Club at Gammelgården Museum will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Bring a project you’re working on\, and join in conversation and community. This is a relaxing gathering for people with projects in progress or in the planning stages. \n  \nThis is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and work on your small projects in knitting\, crocheting\, hand sewing\, needlefelting\, mending\, embroidery\, cross stitching\, tatting\, weaving\, needlepoint\, lacemaking\, macrame\, spinning\, rug hooking\, string art\, or any other fiber art. \n  \nThe club offers people a chance to work on projects\, learn new skills\, get opinions on projects\, and make suggestions to others. It’s a great way to make progress on your creative endeavors. \n\n\n  \nIMPORTANT FOR THIS GROUP – PLEASE READ: \n1. Smaller projects only due to limited room size. So\, unless it can fit in your lap (such as the beginning of a project)\, please leave larger projects like afghans\, large sweaters\, etc. at home. \n2. Small supply totes only. Keep large needlework bags\, boxes of supplies\, etc. at home. There is not enough table and floor space to support items of that size. \n3. Work on a project that you bring to the Fiber Arts Club. Making progress on your project while chit-chatting is the purpose of the group and respect for others’ productivity is important. \n4. Any coffee\, tea\, or soda/pop must be covered.

DESCRIPTION:New to Gammelgården this year is children’s storytime! This program will be hosted weekly on Thursday’s at 10:30 am in the classroom upstairs.\n\nThis is a great opportunity for you and your family to partake in early literacy in your community. Early literacy programs are not designed to teach young children how to read\, rather they focus on developing skills through stories. \n\nStorytime is designed to introduce your little one to stories\, songs\, rhyming\, and other kids. Storytime often includes one to two read-alouds with one to two interactive songs\, rhymes\, or activities.\n\nStorytime will be hosted by Grace Taylor. Grace will graduate with a Master’s in Library and Information Sciences from St. Kate’s in August 2025 and has taken multiple courses in Children’s Materials and Services.

DESCRIPTION:We want to cordially invite you and your family to our first annual Trick or Treating at Gammelgården! \n\n\n\nBring your kiddos to test drive those costumes one week before Halloween in the daylight. Walk door-to-door to each of our historic buildings and grab some candy.\n\nFun and easy Halloween kids’ crafts will be available and hosted by our Librarian as well.\n\n(At 1pm\, the museum will also be hosting a traditional paper doll-making class for a small fee for those interested.)\n\nTake photos with your kids in costume with our multiple Dala horses around the grounds\, and don’t forget to tag the museum so we see them!\n\nThis is a perfect opportunity to step back in time with your family and enjoy the fall air on our historic grounds.

SUMMARY:The Art of Klippdockor: Paper Doll Making Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join artist Maya Boo for a hands-on paper doll workshop inspired by Swedish immigrant folk traditions. In the 1800s\, immigrant families in Minnesota created “klippdockor” (cut-out dolls) from wallpaper scraps\, magazines\, and reused household materials.\n\nIn this class\, participants will learn about the history of these handmade toys while designing and decorating their own paper dolls\, complete with clothing and accessories. Each participant will take home two dolls\, outfits\, and ideas to continue creating at home.\n\nIf you would like to participate but are unable to afford the course fee\, please email volunteer@gammelgardenmuseum.org.\n\nCancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Under 3 weeks before the event\, no refunds.\n\nABOUT THE ARTIST\n\nMaya Boo is a multidisciplinary mixed media and apparel artist based in St. Paul\, Minnesota\, and a 2025 Gammelgården Museum Intern. Her work explores themes of identity\, culture\, healing\, and joy through textiles\, paint\, and found objects. She is a board member of the St. Paul Art Collective and has had exhibitions and organized art events throughout the Twin Cities. Maya is passionate about keeping folk art traditions alive and making creative practices accessible to all ages and abilities.
