Help churn (and taste!) homemade ice cream.\nExplore the 3 houses at Gammelgarden – Immigrant House\, Pastor’s House\, and Peasant Cottage – and explore their similarities and differences.\nLearn about some of the trees at Gammelgården and then use quilling and painting to create a unique summer tree.\nLearn how the Ojibwe tribe was one of the tribes living in the St. Croix River Valley. Use fabric markers to color a shoulder bag using natural materials and images of bandolier bags in the Minnesota Historical Society collection as inspiration.\nLearn about chickens and make a paper-painted collage chicken or rooster\nExplore the Church/One-Room School and Barn at Gammelgarden\, and learn what children did in each building.\n\n  \n\nOffered: Monday and Tuesday\, July 22-23\, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.\nAges: Children entering first grade through sixth grade.\nFee: $130 members/$145 non-members (all supplies included).\nRegistration Deadline: July 1. DESCRIPTION:This immersive\, beginner-level workshop will introduce you to coiling\, a structural textile technique that can be used to create sculptural work. Learn from Teaching Artist Alonzo Pantoja the coiling process from beginning to end– how to start a coil\, wrap yarn\, join coiling material\, and finish off the work. Demos and discussion will cover formal elements of art and design including form\, color\, texture\, and consideration of how the work is viewed and displayed in space. Perfect for all levels\, including students who want to add a structural\, sculpture process to their repertoire of skills. \nStudents Need to Bring: \n– Coiling core ½” 100 ft. (Instructor Recommendation – https://www.paracordplanet.com/coiling-cord/)\n– Blunt tapestry needle – #18 or #13\n– Yarn of any color\, texture\, or thickness (grab more than you think that you will need\, just in case!)\n– Scissors \nStudents are responsible for procuring materials independently. DESCRIPTION:Students will work on a small floral sampler while learning several basic embroidery stitches and how to combine them. Stitches will be practiced to prepare students to complete the design at home and give them the skills to take on future projects. \nFabrics\, needles\, threads\, and stitch dictionaries will be discussed so students can make informed decisions when taking their skills beyond this project. \nNo prior embroidery experience is necessary. DESCRIPTION:A costumed narrator provides an overview of the history of tea in Western society. Tea is prepared as a demonstration and served at a tea table by other costumed interpreters in proper upper-class mid-nineteenth-century form. Commentary is provided concerning manners\, language\, the social hierarchy\, and the kinds of accompaniments that would have been offered. \nParticipants leave the event with a working knowledge regarding the preparation of a mid-nineteenth-century tea\, and the rules involved. Attendees: \n\nLearn about the history of tea as a social custom.\nView equipment considered necessary for tea service in the mid-nineteenth century\, and learn to identify what the function of each item is and how it is properly used.\nObserve the preparation and serving of tea by costumed interpreters.\n\nFollowing the presentation\, enjoy a tea party with light food\, desserts\, tea\, and coffee. \nThis event is appropriate for ages 12+ years old. The name was changed to Swedish Flag Day in 1983\, but it wasn’t until 2005 that it became an official public holiday. \nOn National Day in Sweden\, people enjoy Fika with friends\, sing\, dance\, and attend village events in the town square.
