DESCRIPTION:This two-hour class will include eco printing with steam and fresh botanicals on mordanted bandanas. While the steam sets the cloth\, participants will learn how to use the same fresh botanicals to create solar dye jars\, which they’ll take home with them.\n\n\n\nAt the end of class\, participants will unveil the completed eco-printed cloth and take home a unique eco-printed bandana as well.\n\n\nClass Fee: $55\, which includes all tools\, materials\, and instruction from a Textile Center teaching artist.\n\n\nThe registration link will be posted in mid-April.\n\nCancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. DESCRIPTION:Join a short course where we will combine embroidery with appliqué to finish a small decorative pillow top.  Choose from 1 of 3 apron designs\, each displaying a fabric from the Dalarna area. \n\nIt is said that “clothing is to clothe someone\, but a costume tells a story.”  While stitching our project\, we will learn some fun history of Swedish folk dress. \nSuggested age group:  12 years to adult. Youth 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult. \nMaterials fee of $20.00 includes:\n– 10×10” pillow form\n– Fabric for front and back of pillow\n– Trim for belt\n– Embroidery floss\n– 1 needle\n– Pattern \nNatalie Norman has been part of the cultural needlework community for over 20 years\, participating as a vendor\, demonstrator\, and teacher at venues such as Gammelgården Museum\, American Swedish Institute\, and Marine Mills Folk School. Sponsored by the Swedish Embassy in Washington\, DC\, her embroidered work was featured in a traveling exhibition that visited five major American cities and concluded with a 15-month tour in Stockholm\, Sweden. In 2019\, Natalie received a fellowship from the American Scandinavian Foundation to study a traditional form of folk art. Courses in fritt broderi at Sätergläntan in Dalarna and påsöm at the Mora Folk School have since deepened her embroidery practice and strengthened her desire to share this passion with others. \nThe registration link for this class will be posted in May. \nCancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Create one for yourself or make a custom gift for someone special. \n \nSupply list: (Materials will make at least two pouches.) \n\nSewing machine with a zipper foot.\n¼-yard of outer fabric. You can use a quilting weight or a denim weight fabric.\n¼-yard of lining fabric. Quilting weight fabric recommended.\nOptional: ¼ yard of cotton batting if you want to quilt the outside.\nMatching thread\, scissors\, and pins.\nA chopstick or other point turner.\nZipper. DESCRIPTION:Delight recipients with a unique card for holidays\, weddings\, birthdays\, or any other occasion. Fabric applique is sewn directly onto the paper card. Many embellishments can be added. This fun class will include many tips\, ideas\, and even patterns to get you started and inspired. \n \nBy the end of the class\, students will have the skills and confidence to create beautiful\, one-of-a-kind cards for holidays\, birthdays\, and special occasions. \nStudents should bring: a sewing machine\, several colors of thread and bobbins\, and scissors. Fabric\, some threads\, and patterns will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own fabric scraps for a personal touch. \nSupply list \n\nPack of blank cards and a pack of envelopes (Available at craft stores or paper supply stores.). DESCRIPTION:Add some new life to well-loved clothing using basic darning and mending techniques. Students can bring some of their own clothes to darn and mend using tools and supplies provided by instructor Riley Kleve. Students will learn to select materials\, use various tools\, and care for mended and darned clothing in class. Students will leave with new techniques for beautiful mends that add color\, pattern\, and durability to their clothing. \n \nSchedule: During this short class\, students will get an introduction to methods of mending and darning that bring individuality to their clothing. There will be a balance of lecture\, demonstration\, and hands-on practice! For an additional $20\, students have the option of bringing a mending disc home to continue their repairs. \n \nPrerequisites/Skill Level/Age Requirements: \n\nNo prior experience required.\nAges 18+\n\nThe registration link for this class will be posted in May. \nCancellation Policy: Up to 3 weeks before the event – 50% refund. Under 3 weeks before the event\, no refunds. \nRiley Kleve is a nonbinary textile artist and educator creating collaborative work in community-led settings. Their work in weaving\, handspinning\, and embroidery draws from history to create a queerer vision for the future of textiles. Some recent highlights include weaving felted pins and inviting viewers to name them based on gender feelings they evoke\, creating a co-woven tapestry with over 110 attendees at a dusk-till-dawn arts festival\, and facilitating drop-in LGBT craft nights. Riley has a self-directed BA in craft from Hampshire College and is a 2024-26 Resident Artisan at North House Folk School.

DESCRIPTION:Create a fun and functional fabric bowl in this beginner-friendly class. Using clothesline and fabric strips\, students will learn how to shape and stitch a three-dimensional bowl on the sewing machine while watching fabric patterns transform as the bowl takes shape. \nLearn how to make adorable bowls using only strips of fabric\, clothesline\, and your sewing machine! Make decorative bowls for your table\, sewing accessories\, or the remote. This is a great project to make for gifts at the holidays or special occasions. Enjoy seeing how fabrics blend as a bowl takes shape. \n \nIn this class\, students learn how to:\n– Wrap fabric smoothly around clothesline.\n– Form a three-dimensional bowl using a sewing machine.\n– Understand how fabric patterns change during the bowl-making process. \nSupply List: Students need to bring to class the following items: \n\nWorking sewing machine with zig zag stitch. \nZig zag foot\, ideally one that allows you to see your stitches.\nTotal of ¾ yard of cotton fabric for a medium bowl. DESCRIPTION:Mark your calendar for the second annual Trick or Treat at Gammelgården! \n\n\n\nBring your children to test-drive their costumes one week before Halloween in daylight. Walk door-to-door to each of our historic buildings and grab some candy.\n\nFun and easy Halloween kids’ crafts will be available inside the classroom and exhibit space (upstairs in the Welcome House).\n\nTake photos with your kids in costume with our multiple Dala horses around the grounds\, and don’t forget to tag the museum so we see them!\n\nThis is a perfect opportunity to step back in time with your family and enjoy the fall air on our historic grounds.
