DESCRIPTION:Explore the fascinating people and places of Minnesota’s first global business in “Fur Trade in Minnesota\,” a new traveling exhibit from the Minnesota History Center on Saturday\, January 25\, 2025\, at Gammelgården Museum. \n  \nHundreds of years ago\, Minnesota played a key role in the fur trade\, which stretched across five continents. Visitors to the exhibit can lift a 45-pound Voyageur’s pack\, learn how the fur trade shaped Ojibwe art\, and discover how beaver pelts could be transformed into sleek\, stately hats that were all the rage among wealthy Europeans. \n  \n“Fur Trade in Minnesota” will be on view for only one day during Vinterfest from 10 am – 4 pm. \n  \n“Fur Trade in Minnesota” was created by the Minnesota History Center’s “Exhibits to Go” program which brings Minnesota history to communities statewide. \n  \n“Exhibits to Go” is made possible by the Legacy Amendment’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4\, 2008. \n

DESCRIPTION:Dala Horse Puzzle Tournament \n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a fun-filled morning of puzzle-solving and friendly competition. Test your skills and see if you have what it takes to be crowned the puzzle champion. Whether you’re a puzzle enthusiast or just looking for a good time\, this event is perfect for all ages. Don’t miss out on the chance to win some amazing prizes and bragging rights. See you there! \nInformation about the Tournament \n– There will be 8 teams (of up to 4 people per team) who pre-register for the tournament. Registration will close when the spots are filled. \n· Check-in on Saturday\, January 25th will be inside the Welcome House (Valkommen Hus – the big red building) at Gammelgården. Only one team member needs to stand in line to register. \n· Seating begins 10 minutes before the scheduled start time of the contest. No early seating will be allowed. \n· Teams get to keep the puzzle they worked on. More copies of the 2025 Dala horse puzzle plus other puzzles will be available for purchase during Vinterfest and the Puzzle Tournament in Gammelgården Museum’s Butik (Gift Shop). \n· No early starts! If you open your box and begin your puzzle before the start of the contest\, you will be disqualified. \n· Hands only! There can be no use of any puzzle tools\, cutting devices\, flashlights\, or phones. \n· Use of table risers is not permitted and is grounds for disqualification. \n· Judges will be monitoring the area and watching as teams get close to finishing. When your team is close to finishing\, raise your hand and a judge will come to your table to watch you finish and record your time. \n· Winners will be announced immediately following the competition. \n· Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams.

This family-friendly\, free event will feature many exciting activities and exhibits! \nFrom 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: \n\n\n· View new exhibits in the Welcome House (Välkommen Hus): “Explore the World of Immigrants\,” “Scandinavian Fish and Fishing\,” and “Birch: Art & Function.” \n\n\n\n\n· See the historic buildings and look for some artifacts that have not been displayed before. \n\n\n\n\n· Visit Little Blue’s Traveling Zoo by Gammelgården’s barn\, and see and touch a variety of farm animals. \n\n\n\n· See and touch popular nineteenth-century games\, hosted by costumed interpreters from the Living History Society of Minnesota.\n\n\n\n· Do hands-on historical activities by each of the buildings. \n\n\n\n\n· Shop at the Arts\, Crafts\, and Vendor Fair. DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Arts Club at Gammelgården Museum will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Bring a project you’re working on\, and join in conversation and community. This is a relaxing gathering for people with projects in progress or in the planning stages. \n  \nThis is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and work on your small projects in knitting\, crocheting\, hand sewing\, needlefelting\, mending\, embroidery\, cross stitching\, tatting\, weaving\, needlepoint\, lacemaking\, macrame\, spinning\, rug hooking\, string art\, or any other fiber art. \n  \nThe club offers people a chance to work on projects\, learn new skills\, get opinions on projects\, and make suggestions to others. It’s a great way to make progress on your creative endeavors. \n\n\n  \nIMPORTANT FOR THIS GROUP – PLEASE READ: \n1. Smaller projects only due to limited room size. So\, unless it can fit in your lap (such as the beginning of a project)\, please leave larger projects like afghans\, large sweaters\, etc. at home. \n2. Small supply totes only. Keep large needlework bags\, boxes of supplies\, etc. at home. There is not enough table and floor space to support items of that size. \n3. Work on a project that you bring to the Fiber Arts Club. Making progress on your project while chit-chatting is the purpose of the group and respect for others’ productivity is important. \n4. Any coffee\, tea\, or soda/pop must be covered.

DESCRIPTION:This beginning-level course is wonderful for those who want to learn how to crochet\, but need some guidance about how to start.  It also is a great class for those who have crocheted many years ago and need a little encouragement to get back into it. \nFirst\, you learn about the best hooks and yarn and then you work on a simple square pattern of single crochet stitches that you can be made into a dishcloth\, hot pad\, or cup cozy. Cara helps students troubleshoot any issues and learn to make those perfect edges. Now I design patterns\, teach classes\, and sell my handmade items. \nIn my knitting and crochet classes\, my goal is to build confidence in beginners by starting with chunky knit projects you can finish in one class. Once you’ve mastered that project\, you can move on to smaller and smaller needles and yarn. DESCRIPTION:The Fiber Arts Club at Gammelgården Museum will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Bring a project you’re working on\, and join in conversation and community. This is a relaxing gathering for people with projects in progress or in the planning stages. \n  \nThis is the perfect opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and work on your small projects in knitting\, crocheting\, hand sewing\, needlefelting\, mending\, embroidery\, cross stitching\, tatting\, weaving\, needlepoint\, lacemaking\, macrame\, spinning\, rug hooking\, string art\, or any other fiber art. \n  \nThe club offers people a chance to work on projects\, learn new skills\, get opinions on projects\, and make suggestions to others. It’s a great way to make progress on your creative endeavors. \n\n\n  \nIMPORTANT FOR THIS GROUP – PLEASE READ: \n1. Smaller projects only due to limited room size. So\, unless it can fit in your lap (such as the beginning of a project)\, please leave larger projects like afghans\, large sweaters\, etc. at home. \n2. Small supply totes only. Keep large needlework bags\, boxes of supplies\, etc. at home. There is not enough table and floor space to support items of that size. \n3. Work on a project that you bring to the Fiber Arts Club.
