DESCRIPTION:Season Opening Day marks the first day of the 2026 season. This family-friendly\, free event will feature many exciting activities and exhibits! \nFrom 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.: \n\n\n· View new exhibits in the Welcome House (Välkommen Hus). \n\n\n\n\n· See the historic buildings and look for some artifacts that have not been displayed before. \n· Enjoy a variety of food from three food trucks. \n\n\n\n\n· Do hands-on historical activities by each of the buildings. \n\n\n\n\n· Shop at the Arts\, Crafts\, and Vendor Fair. Participating vendors as of April 12\, 2026\, include:\n– Apothecary’s Daughter\n– Carol’s Glass Creations\n– Chelsey’s Jams and Jellies\n– Chickadee Forest \n– Drew’s Blades\n– Nord Lake Reflections\n– Scandia Sister City Committee\n– Shaped by Water\n– Susan Woodworking\n– UMN Extension Washington County Master Gardeners – Milkweed\, Monarchs\, and Pollinators Team \n· Watch artists and educators do demonstrations throughout the day. Participating demonstrators as of April 12\, 2026\, include:\n– Drew’s Blades – blacksmithing demonstrations\n– Judy Larson from the Scandinavian Weavers Study Group\n– UMN Extension Washington County Master Gardeners – Milkweed\, Monarchs\, and Pollinators Team – demonstrations about how native plants support diversity plus hands-on activities for youth and adults. \n\n\n\n\n· Support youth by shopping at the Kids Entrepreneur Market.  \n· Visit with organizations that have displays and information about immigrants and pioneers who were in Minnesota at the same time that Swedish immigrants were moving and settling in the state. A list of participating organizations will be posted closer to the event. \n· Play-and-Win Games – Sponsored by Stonemaier Games\n \n\n\n· Shop in Gammelgården’s gift shop (Butik) and see all the new products for 2026!\n\n\n· Visit with the Minnesota Genealogical Society and learn how to research your family’s ancestors. \n\n\n\n· Learn about volunteer opportunities at Gammelgården.\n\n\n\n· Temporary tattoos for kids. \n\n\n\n\n· Learn about the many restoration and accessibility projects happening at Gammelgården this year. \n\n\n\n\n· Beverages on site for purchase. \n\n\n\n\n· Check out a sensory kit\, if needed. (The museum has kits for both children and adults.) \n1:00 p.m. – Watch a presentation by the Living History Society of Minnesota about historic clothing and fashion from the 1800s.

DESCRIPTION:Embroidery is an old art form. It can be purely decorative or used for mending. All you need is a needle\, some type of thread\, and a foundation to stitch into.  \n \nThere are hundreds of stitch variations. Using different threads – silk vs. wool vs. cotton vs. synthetics – produces different looks.  \n \nOnce you become familiar with the basic stitches\, you can make your own embroidered needle book to store needles for your next project. \nThis class is for adults and 16+ year old youth\, and costs $55 per person. The class fee includes all the materials (handouts with instructions\, felt\, embroidery floss\, needles\, and scissors).
