Journey Through Time: Immigrant Threads

One of Gammelgården’s interns, Maya, is working on a special project that will be debuted at Midsommardagen this year. She is assembling a set of clothes that children can try on and then have their picture taken.

The clothes are a combination of ones that were once used in the museum’s children’s programming that she is cleaning, mending, and adding embellishments to (e.g., Swedish trim on plain skirts).

Using these clothes as a starting point, she will be sewing costumes (e.g., boys’ pants) as well as adding some purchased pieces (e.g., blouses).

Children will have an opportunity to have their photo taken using a Polaroid camera. The picture can be affixed to a “Midsommar Passport” that children can take with them and have stamped at various locations around the museum during Midsommardagen.

Additional clothes and costumes will be available at Spelmansståmman so children who will be attending both events can try on different outfits.
