Luciadagen 2022

Luciadagen was held in the Gammelkyrkan at Gammelgården Museum on Sunday, December 11th at 6 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. This recording is of the 8:30 a.m. service.

Gammelkyrkan is the first sanctuary of Elim Lutheran Church, built in 1856, and used until 1860. It is the oldest Lutheran church building in Minnesota. From 1860-1899, it was moved and used as Hay Lake School. Then it was moved to the Forsell Farm for hay storage until 1981. The final move to its present location was done, and the building was restored and re-dedicated on September 12, 1982, by ELCA Bishop Herbert Chilstrom and HH Prince Bertil of Sweden.

The Luciadagen 2022 service was as follows:

Hosianna – Sung by the congregation

Juldagens Evangelium Lukas 2:1-14 – Signe Fluegel (Reader)

Message – Shirley Hegdahl

Trosbekannelsen – Spoken by the congregation

Stilla Natt, Heliga Natt – All with Tim and Becca Newcomb (as Lucia)

Fader Var – Spoken by the congregation

This service was dedicated to the memory of Rev. Alan Hagstrom who was a Gammelgarden board member, tour guide, and Lucia preacher for many years. He passed away in October 2022.

Following the service, guests were invited to join Lucia in the Valkommen Hus classroom for coffee and pastries.

Music was provided by Ernie Kertzcher.
