Tea with the Living History Society

June 8 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm

A costumed narrator provides an overview of the history of tea in Western society. Tea is prepared as a demonstration and served at a tea table by other costumed interpreters in proper upper-class mid-nineteenth-century form. Commentary is provided concerning manners, language, the social hierarchy, and the kinds of accompaniments that would have been offered.

Participants leave the event with a working knowledge regarding the preparation of a mid-nineteenth-century tea, and the rules involved. Attendees:

  • Learn about the history of tea as a social custom.
  • View equipment considered necessary for tea service in the mid-nineteenth century, and learn to identify what the function of each item is and how it is properly used.
  • Observe the preparation and serving of tea by costumed interpreters.

Following the presentation, enjoy a tea party with light food, desserts, tea, and coffee.

This event is appropriate for ages 12+ years old. All teens must be accompanied by an adult.
