Gammelgården’s Interns Add Artifacts to MNCollections
During May, two of Gammelgården’s interns, Paige Ewert and Margot Johnsen, added historic books and embroidered frame caps to the museum’s collections management system (CollectiveAccess) which is linked to MNCollections, a digital platform that showcases thousands of artifacts from historical museums and societies throughout the state.
Paige is focusing on 37 books from the late-1800s to early-1900s that are in the museum’s collection. These books need to be accessioned, entered into a binder listing the books in the museum’s collection, photographed, and uploaded to CollectiveAccess. She has completed about 35% of this project.

Margot focused on 20 hard silk embroidered caps, called bindmössa, that are in the collection and were already accessioned. She photographed the caps, and then uploaded information and images for all of them onto CollectiveAccess, which can be viewed by the public on MNCollections. (As a side note, bindmössa were the most common headwear for female folk outfits in Sweden. As a fashion accessory, these brocaded silk caps and their appearance are not specific to any region in Sweden. The embroidery was done by professionals on these ready-made caps.)

We are so thankful for Margot’s and Paige’s hard work on the collection, and getting the museum’s artifacts accessioned, photographed, and documented (in binders and on CollectiveAccess).
