Charlotte Weibull Doll – Lace Maker
This is a handmade doll showing the art of lace making. Created in the workshop of Charlotte Weibull in Malmo, Sweden, Charlotte meticulously made her dolls in the Folk Drakt of Sweden as a means of cherishing the tradition and details of the Folk Drakt.
By looking at the Folk Drakt, you can learn what province, village, or parish the person lived in, their marital status, and sometimes, their means of livelihood. They are considered national treasures, must be made of natural materials with the proper trim, decoration and closures.
In 1996, Charlotte Weibull was named Scanian of the year. Born in 1917, she passed away in 2015, leaving her farm, workshop, and collection of dolls to the city of Burlöv as a cultural center.
This doll is part of the Barbara Glaser & Eleanor Edman collection at Gammelgarden Museum of Scandia numbering about 150 dolls. The exhibit changes seasonally.
