Vinterfest 2023

Gammelgården Museum of Scandia participated in Scandia’s Vinterfest 2023 on Saturday, February 4, 2023, with a variety of activities held at the museum.
Hundreds of people came to Gammelgården on February 4th for Vinterfest.
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Gammelgården Museum and Scandia Heritage Alliance join forces to offer free family activities:
- See a display of vintage skis, snowshoes, and sleds

- Gather around a bonfire at the picnic tables with snacks and warm drinks
Guests made their way to picnic tables to enjoy snacks and hot drinks.
- Play outdoors
Children played outdoors on the west side of Gammelgården.
- Participate in a Kubb Tournament (an Ancient Viking Game)
- Use your creativity to do crafts
The second floor of the Valkommen Hus was packed with families who were crafting together.
- Go on a Trivia Treasure Hunt
- Meet raptors

10 a.m. – Register for Kubb Tournament (teams of 2) – Barton Johnson Park Tennis Courts
10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Register for Wild Goose Chase Trivia Treasure Hunt (teams of 2-5 people – one smartphone per team required to play) – Gammelgården Välkommen Hus, 1st Floor
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Gammelgården Butik Open
The display outside of the Butik had a Valentine’s Day theme.
There was a wide variety of items available in Gammelgården’s Butik.
10:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Kubb Tournament (an ancient Viking game) – Barton Johnson Park Tennis Courts
12 noon – 4 p.m. – Family craft activities and reading – Gammelgården Välkommen Hus, 2nd Floor
- Color a Dala horse
- Create snowflakes from cardboard tube slices
- Transform white paper bags into a snowflake mobile
- Frost gingerbread cookies
- Read winter books in the carpeted nook
12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. (Presentations at 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.) – Meet raptors from the Wildlife Research Center – Outside Gammelgården Välkommen Hus (will move indoors if the weather is bitterly cold)

There were two raptors at the event that people could ask questions about and see up close.
Another owl that the Wildlife Science Center brought to Gammelgarden. It was born without an eye which would affect its ability to hunt and survive in the wild.
