Swedish Easter (Påsk) Candelabra

Swedish Easter (Påsk) Candelabra. This was developed in Sweden centuries ago to help illiterate people understand the important parts of the Easter story. Start at the base and “read” upwards:

3 Legs – The Holy Trinity of the Christian Church (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

3 Candles – Again, the Holy Trinity of the Christian Church.

The Heart Shape – The 12 disciples of Christ – ordinary people who became Christians and, at great risk, carried the message far and wide, and wrote the letters of the New Testament. A reminder that we too are part of the heart of the church, sharing and telling the Christian story.

12 Tears on the Heart – A reminder of the original 12 disciples.

Heart in 2 Sides – Represents the 2 tablets of the law…the 10 commandments.

Left Heart Side – Is topped with 5 holes and a pointed half circle. The 5 holes represent the first 5 commandments and the pointed half circle represents the Crown of Thorns of the Good Friday Crucifixion.

Right Heart Side – Also has 5 holes and a pointed half circle. The 5 holes complete the 10 commandments and the pointed half circle reminds us of the sunrise of the Easter Sunday resurrection.

The Rooster – This reminds us of Peter’s denial of Christ 3 times.
