Sun Yung Shin edited What We Hunger For, a collection of 14 essays by refugee and immigrant writers exploring how food, family, and migration intersect, and she has shared these stories in interviews and live events. On November 21st from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon, Sun Yung Shin will do an author talk and book signing at Gammelgården Museum. She will have books available for purchase. 

Hear from the author about the deep ties between eating, ancestry, identity, and community. The essays in What We Hunger For weave together personal memories, recipes, reflections on colonialism, and the ways that food connects, heals, and resists.

Shin’s own background, a Korean adoptee in a white family, raised in Chicago and Minnesota, informs her introduction, which reflects on her mother’s cooking, family history, and the cultural blending she experienced.
