Intro to Coiling

July 20 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

This immersive, beginner-level workshop will introduce you to coiling, a structural textile technique that can be used to create sculptural work. Learn from Teaching Artist Alonzo Pantoja the coiling process from beginning to end– how to start a coil, wrap yarn, join coiling material, and finish off the work. Demos and discussion will cover formal elements of art and design including form, color, texture, and consideration of how the work is viewed and displayed in space. Perfect for all levels, including students who want to add a structural, sculpture process to their repertoire of skills.

Students Need to Bring:

– Coiling core ½” 100 ft. (Instructor Recommendation – https://www.paracordplanet.com/coiling-cord/)
– Blunt tapestry needle – #18 or #13
– Yarn of any color, texture, or thickness (grab more than you think that you will need, just in case!)
– Scissors

Students are responsible for procuring materials independently. The cost for materials is not included in the cost for registration.

Where can I get the class materials?
• Order online. The instructor has included their preferred resources for the specific materials needed for the class.
