Birch Bark Canister

This canister, made from birch bark, has a tight-fitting cover. This style and method of construction dates back to pre-Viking times. These type of containers were used to store food items or silver jewelry as birch bark prohibits oxidation/rust. Containers like this have been found from Viking times with food stored in them and still viable.
