Wooden Hand Tool

This hand tool was used for carving or scooping out wood to form a bowl or trough. When you hold this handmade tool, it clearly fits your right hand. The handle accommodates the slant of your fingers. Notice, too, that the curved (hand-forged) blade is attached with ties which allow for easy removal of the blade for sharpening.

The user’s (and also possibly the maker’s) initials are very visible. Tools were valuable and usually works of art in their design. This tool showcases the Swedish tradition of form following use or function, with an eye to elegant, clean design. This was a gift from Barbara Glaser in 2004.
