Birch Bark Slippers or Container

This birch bark artifact is a handmade slipper. As a slipper, they would have been worn outside. Although many people think of birch trees as white, they have an inner layer of bark that is brown.

Because the shoes feel quite hard, they would have been worn with thick socks to make them more comfortable.

Another use could have been a container that would have been hung on a peg or nail to hold any number of household items.
