Hand-Carved Ladles

These beautifully carved ladles are most likely from basswood which is finely grained and easily carved.

Notice the hooks on the backs of the handles which allow the cook to rest the spoons on the lip of the cooking pot and avoid having messy, sticky handles. The ladles are a good example of Swedish design – simple, elegant, and practical.
